With Kung Fu Kenny dropping his latest project this past weekend, Soundplug is here to break down some of the names you guys may not be familiar with. With mainstays such as Mike Will Made It, Terrace Martin, Cardo, James Blake, 9th Wonder, DJ Dahi, Tae Beast, The Alchemist, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith already having big name recognition, let’s take a look at some of the main contributors to Kendrick Lamar’s latest work.

Since meeting the TDE crew back in 2005, Sounwave has been an integral part of Top Dawg serving as one of the label’s main in-house producers. So it’s no surprise that Sounwave scores multiple production/co-production credits on K Dot’s album, who’s he been working with as early as 2009’s Kendrick Lamar EP.

Based out of Memphis, Teddy Walton scores one of his many major production credits in his rising production career, co-producing “Love” alongside Sounwave, Greg Kurstin and Top Dawg. The 24-year old got one of his first major placements on ASAP Rocky’s “Electric Body” off AT.LONG.LAST.A$AP.

His name may not be familiar to hip hop fans but Greg Kurstin is a Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist who crafted one of Adele’s biggest hits “Hello”. Based out of LA, Kurstin spent his early career according to Billboard playing with alt-rock group Geggy Tah in the 1990s and reaching wider mainstream success with Lily Allen, Ellie Goulding, Sia and beyond.

A Grammy-nominated producer from Los Angeles that scored placements on Kendrick Lamar’s “m.A.A.d city,” ScHoolboy Q’s “Collard Greens,” and A$AP Rocky’s “Fine Whine.”
Production Credit: LUSTComposed of Matthew Tavares (keys), Chester Hansen (bass), Leland Whitty (saxophone), and Alexander Sowinski (drums), this Canadian band is known heavily for their jazzy and experimental covers of hip-hop music. They’re in the studio with Frank Dukes working on Ghostface Killah’s upcoming project.

Bekon is credited with the second most production credits behind Sounwave. Spent the better part of the last decade under the name Danny Keyz crafting tracks for a range of rap legends including Eminem, RZA, and Snoop Dogg. Last year, Bekon nabbed a Grammy nod for his co-writing work on BJ the Chicago Kid’s album In My Mind. Bekon (real name Daniel Tannenbaum) also co-wrote and lent his vocals n the Dr. Dre Compton cut “All in a Day’s Work.”
